Meet Karla Caudill, the Designer Behind Grand Home Design
From a Family of Designers in Mexico to Homes Across North Atlanta
Karla Caudill is a Mexican designer and the owner and CEO of Grand Home Design, known for an innovative approach to interior design and for seeing what a room could become. She grew up in a family of designers and architects in Mexico, and the places she has lived still shape her work: the historical elegance of Mexican Spanish architecture, the minimal but sophisticated feel of European design, and the comfortable grace of Southern homes. Travel to several other countries added to her understanding of how different cultures think about home. Here in Georgia, she brings those influences together, but every design starts with the house itself, whether that’s a rustic timber-and-stone home or a contemporary build.
Karla holds a graduate degree in Business Administration and a post-graduate degree in Interior Design, where she built a deep understanding of architecture, art, and interior aesthetics. That education also gave her a habit she still keeps, which is continually learning and staying current with new trends and technologies in the field. Her business training matters as well, because a design is only useful if it can be built within a budget the homeowner understands from the start.
How Karla Designs and Builds Every Project
She designs every project personally, including the lighting, which she builds into the architecture with cove lighting above cabinet runs, strips hidden behind trim, toe-kick lighting under islands and vanities, and backlit niches and mirrors. Because that kind of lighting has to be planned before the walls close, every client sees a 3D rendering of the finished space before demolition begins. Once construction starts, Karla directs the crew and is on site while the work happens, and she’s fluent in both English and Spanish, which helps bilingual households and keeps communication clear on the job.
